Captain’s Log

Should I Stay or Should I go? Every Captain’s Dilemma

I have often thought that fishing requires both patience and perseverance.

You see, it is in those quiet moments, when the tide changes, that the internal dialogue begins and I ask myself, “should I stay or should I go?” Patience says to make one more delightful cast into the still waters of a tide change. Perseverance says to keep moving from one set of numbers to another until the last set of coordinates have been punched and the day is in tatters.

The struggle is real and perhaps it is the same struggle we all face as anglers – both professional and weekend warrior alike.

Sometimes the answer to life’s most infuriating question can be found by simply rummaging around in the cooler for a snack (or someone’s else’s) to generate conversation. When conversation becomes a plan, then the plan becomes action.

If you are at the helm of the decision making wheel, then moving to a new spot when the fish aren’t biting can net some awesome fish. That said, at the end of the day, whether you stay in one spot or explore an unknown creek on yon distant shore, remember that a once-productive location can still net your limit. Sometimes tide, the weather, or bad timing can be instrumental in how productive a location can be.

So, take what the day gives you. The goal is to have a great time, and with a little patience, a lot of perseverance, and the company of good friends, who are along for the ride, every fishing trip will be a success.
Until Next time,
